WHO IS JEAN RUSSO

Jean Russo tells heartfelt stories through what is typically seen as a lowbrow medium. Her goal is to create comics that elevate the craft to fine art. Her work mixes a traditional etching style of drawing with contemporary design in the same way it mixes genre fiction with deeply personal narratives and ideas. Her comics are created with slavish devotion to detail and texture, paying special attention to bold line work. Through her work, her readers will get an engrossing story that speaks to the heart.

Russo is a graphic artist based in Boston, primarily known for her comic book illustration. Currently a senior majoring in Illustration, Russo graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2024 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. Her work, like The Unstoppable Butterfly and Lots of Little Lines, explores the boundaries between fine art and pulp fiction. In Russo's work, every panel is a canvas for expression, every character a vessel for personal narrative. Their work can be seen in their solo exhibition show, Lots of Little Lines, this March at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
